From the 17th of June to the 1st of August, Biofriction exhibition opens in a new cultural space in Lisbon.
The booklet of the exhibition, produced in English and Portuguese, consists of critical texts and goes through the different projects that artists participating in the exhibition have developed during their Biofriction residency program.
In this exhibition, materials show a part of the research process that took place during the residencies. Artists in residence experimenting on material-discursive consequences of working with(in) non-human agents are opening a re-politicization of feminism through (bio)practice and hacking-with-care. The art projects presented in this exhibition are based on the potentia of doing, on desire as affirmative affects, working on human and non-human alliances and solidarity through DIT biotechnology and bio-mediation(s). In these projects, we can find a subjectivity that is composed of external forces, of the non-human, un-organic and technological kind. This bio-mediation(s) can be conceived as a sympoiesis, a qualitative shifter, a multiplicity of becoming. So to think of responsibility hereby means, to think of responsibility as a conception that is against the social imaginary of techno-transcendence. In this sense, Biofriction proposes to re-think responsibility within Aesthet(h)ics, without accepting normative universals, Aesthet(h)ics grounded, embodied and embedded.

The exhibition, hosted by Marta de Menezes, has been developed in the framework of BIOFRICTION, a Creative Europe project led by Hangar in collaboration with Bioart Society, Cultivamos Cultura, and Kersnikova Institute
