On the 12th of November at 17h CET the Photosonic Landscape Panel is streamed through Biofriction channel.
How does an artist approach natural sciences? Could artists’ moving images based on scientific images expand our understanding on science – or on art?
In the panel discussion, artists Minna Långström, Leah Beeferman, and Mika Taanila discuss with solar astronomer Sara Martin the poetic and pragmatic uses of scientific images and is moderated by Tytti Rantanen, program coordinator from AV-arkki.

Kinlab artistic residency @ Hangar

On the 1st of November, Kinlab collective has started the first phase of its artistic residency in Hangar.
Kinlab, with the project OBOT, aims to explore new open-source approaches with practices of collaboration, co-creation and citizen science, by fostering an inclusive environment around womxn’s care, starting from a neighbourhood level.

Minna Långström & Leah Beeferman: Photosonic Landscapes in Color

From the 16th of October to the 20th of November, Bioart Society hosts Photosonic Landscapes in Color exhibition.
Artists Minna Långström and Leah Beeferman have in their previous artistic and academic work both dealt, in various ways, with scientific images and how they relate to cultural ideas surrounding the concept of image.
In the exhibition the artists explore images as scientific tools, or as other forms of information, and as physical entities consisting of pixels or pigment grains correlating to a physical object sensitive to light.

Bio- autonomous Farming

From the 5th to the 7th of October in Kersnikova, Isabel Burr Raty presented the essentials of the bio-autonomous female farming system employed at her Beauty Kit Farm, where was exploring some of these questions with the workshop participants. This farm is a mobile installation performance project that she travels across Europe, recycling bodily materials and orgasmic electricity to produce eco-erogenous para-pharmaceutics products.

Xenological Entanglements. 001a: Trying Plastic Variations

Xenological Entanglements is a multi-year project exploring the xenomogrificationof the tranxxeno body. With altered scientific technologies the artist makes herself the other. In 001. Eromatase at the Kapelica Gallery/Kersnikova Institute, the artist aims to genetically engineer testicular cells (known as Leydig cells) to overproduce oestrogen within a microgravity context.

On October 15th, Biofriction organized the activity Generation-of-world(s). Connections and interferences between the thinking of Donna Haraway and Martin Heidegger, a proposal that is part of the Biennial of Thought 2020.
The activity intends to generate a meeting space where to approach the thought of Martin Heidegger and Donna Haraway in relation to the generation of possible worlds.

Simona Deaconescu and Vanessa Goodman residency @ Cultivamos Cultura

From the 14th to the 30th of September 2020, Simona Deaconescu's and Vanessa Goodman's developed their Biofriction artistic residency at Cultivamos Cultura.

They developed BLOT, a project that explore the body, transferability and continuous oscillations.

Grounding symbiosis, sonifying care

Biofriction is collaborating with Sónar+D in the lecture Grounding symbiosis, sonifying care by researcher and biohacker Saša Spačal, in their cycle of conferences The Part of Nature We Don't See. She explores how funghi, bacteria and other organisms can be creative collaborators, creating technological interfaces and connections between species.

On Bio_Sonic_Agencies roundtable at Ars Electronica Garden Barcelona

Institut Ramon Llull, UOC – ISEA Barcelona, .BEEP { collection;}, NewArtFoundation, OFFF Barcelona and Hangar organized the Ars Electronica Garden Barcelona within the official program of the Ars Electronica 2020 Festival.

On the 9th of September On Bio_Sonic_Agencies, a roundtable hosted by Biofriction took place.

This panel proposed a conversation between Brandon LaBelle, author of Sonic Agency, and artists who work with biomaterials, sound and critically listening as an encounter(s) where other possibilities of relations with what we call nature or to non-human agents can be articulated.
